Baking With the Best Ingredients

White Lily FlourIt does make a difference what products you use to bake. You want to use a good flour, sugar, vanilla and real butter. Many bakers suggest using unsalted butter. I personally prefer salted butter. I like the flavor it produces in my products.

If I buy flour from a regular grocery store, I like Pillsbury for baking. King Arthur is good flour too. White Lily is good flour for biscuits and bread.

Sugar that is extra fine is great for making candies but not cookies it tends to make them sticky. There is nothing like the flavor of real vanilla and other flavoring. Your product will turn out well with a good recipe and great ingredients.

Happy Baking!

THE PERFECT CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

Cookies are such a wonderful treat to have around. Whether you have them with coffee or milk, they are the perfect size snack. Cookies are easy to make.

Here are a few tips:

  • Baking is a science – follow the recipe with exact measurements. Precision is key for good baking.
  • A great recipe will give you a great result; quality ingredients will make a great cookie.
  • Don’t over bake your cookies.

I like a gas oven when I bake but it really is a preference. The more you bake the better you become at turning out a great product. Practice really does make perfect!

Baking Pies

coconut cream pie slicePie is one of those things many shy away from. I have made my own crust many times. I have a few favorite recipes that I use depending on what kind of pie I am making.

Some use butter,  other use shortening. When rolling out your crust, you want to make sure you don’t overwork the pastry. Doing so causes it to be tough. There are pie crusts in the store which are good if you don’t want to make your own. That is half the work!

Crème pies are a bit more work than fruit pies. It is something that you can learn with a good teacher and some practice. Pie is a wonderful dessert to have for Sunday dinner, holidays or any special occasion.
